Mental Health Service

Our LGBTIQA+ Specialist Mental Health Service in Adelaide is a service for lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, transgender, non-binary and gender diverse, intersex, queer, and asexual community members experiencing mental illness and psychological distress aged 16 and above.

Thorne Harbour Health understands the ways in which both structural and systemic oppressions and homophobia, biphobia, intersexism and transphobia impact mental health and wellbeing and the barriers LGBTIQA+ community members can experience when accessing services. Our staff have lived experience and/or extensive experience working with LGBTIQA+ clients. We offer a trauma-informed, sex-positive, gender and sexuality affirming service.

We provide peer support, group work and brief counselling and psychological therapies, informed by a Single Session approach. People can be directly referred to peer support. All clients seeking counselling are offered a Single Session of up to 90 minutes with a mental health clinician. For many people this is sufficient to meet their needs. More support may be provided if required, but please note that we do not provide ongoing or long term psychological support or diagnostic services. Clients may self-refer or be referred via their GP or other health provider.

This program is funded by the Adelaide Primary Health Network – an Australian Government Initiative. Our service is free of charge.
