As a community-led organisation, lesbian, bisexual and queer (LBQ) women have played an important role in VAC’s establishment, history and work since its very founding. That tradition continues today, and our role as an organisation only grows to help meet the health service needs of LBQ women, inclusive of all intersectionalities. VAC is committed to working with LBQ women for LBQ women through the development of a long-term LBQ women’s health strategy.
Since 2015, VAC has been actively responding to the need for improved understanding of and access to appropriate services for LBQ women – from the establishment of the LBQ Women’s Health Conference, which has become an annual event delivered with our NSW counterpart ACON, to alcohol and smoking support groups, mental health and counselling services, intimate partner and family violence support, and the celebration of many incredible and dedicated LBQ women volunteers within our community. VAC works to provide practical solutions to some of the challenges faced by the LBQ women’s community in seeking and accessing appropriate care and support.
