Stigma Reduction for Men
Stigma is a trickey beast and an all too familiar one for men experiencing anxiety and/or depression. It gets even more complicated when you add the stigma associated with living with HIV or being same-sex attracted while in a heterosexual lifestyle. Pete and Dale are aiming to reduce this complex stigma and improve the overall health and wellbeing of these two groups of men.
Pete is aimed at men living with HIV who are experiencing anxiety and/or depression. Meanwhile, Dale is tailored toward same-sex attracted men living in a heterosexual relationship or lifestyle (commonly known as ‘gay and married men’) who are experiencing anxiety and/or depression.
Both Pete and Dale feature a mix of bite-sized Articles with information and personal stories, Forums for ongoing online discussions, and peer-moderated Live Chat sessions focused on specific topics to connect with other likeminded guys.
Both sites offer a safe, online space to interact with likeminded peers and to work through a range of issues affecting men from these communities.

As part of beyondblue’s Stigma Reduction Interventions: Digital Environments (STRIDE) project, made possible by funding from the Movember Foundation, Pete and Dale were developed to find out if the stigma experienced by particular groups of men aged 30-64 experiencing anxiety and/or depression could be reduced through online interventions.
